Tweaking the Output
Although   Perfect Skin Photo TM can automatically transform your
photographs, you may want to tweak the output.
Skin Selection
The first step in tweaking the output is to control which portions of the image are
considered to be skin. Perfect Skin Photo TM makes this decision based upon
  • The colour of each pixel and
  •  Whether or not you have marked as region of the image as “Skin” or not “skin.”
To show which regions of the image are classified as skin click on the “Show Skin
Selection” button at the top left-hand corner of the screen.
This will cause those regions that are considered to be skin to be marked in blue as shown below. In
addition the text on the button toggles “Show Skin Selection” to “Hide Skin Selection”. If you click on it
again the blue shading will disappear.
The slider next to the text labelled “Ski Detection Threshold” can be used to control how much of the image is
recognised as skin. The spin button to the right of the slider can also be used. The blue region will expand and
shrink as you move the slider. If the rate of change is too slow, you can speed it up using the preview speed up.
You can also mark regions on the image as being “Skin” or “Not Skin”. To do this click on the “Add Skin” button
in the top left hand corner and the draw directly onto the screen.
The regions that you mark as “Skin” appear in green while you are drawing them, but when you release
the mouse button, they will appear blue.
To remove regions of the image that are incorrectly marked as skin, click on “Remove skin” and
similarly draw on the canvas.
The regions that you mark as “not skin” appear in red while you are drawing them, but when you release
the mouse button, nothing will be shown in the screen.
Controlling the Smoothing and Distortion
At the bottom of the screen are two sliders labelled “Smoothing” and “Allowable Distortion”. The first of these,
the “Smoothing” slider controls the amount of smoothing measured in pixels. The larger the number, the more
smoothing that will occur. The slider is also connected to the spin button that appears to the right of it. If you are
in “Show Transformed” mode the image will be transformed in real time, giving you real time feedback your
selection of this parameter. The spin button (text box) to the right of the slider is handy for entering values in
manually, such as when you want to use a value that worked for you in the past.
The “Allowable Distortion” slider controls how much the transformed image can differ from the original.
The larger the number the greater the transformed image can deviate from the orginal. The slider is
connected to the spin button to the right of it.
